A West Highland Way Packing List For The First Time Thru-Hiker

In July 2018 I set out to walk the West Highland Way in Scotland with my girlfriend, Amalie, and thus, to accomplish what was very first thru-hike for both of us.

The West Highland Way (or WHW) runs 155,8 kilometers from Milngavie just out of Glasgow to Fort William, the self-claimed outdoor capital of UK. The route takes one through grassy lowlands, lush forests, the beautiful Loch Lomond and ultimately, through the majestic highlands ending near the foot of Ben Nevis, UK's tallest peak.

Scotland is notorious for its harsh and unpredictable weather, in particular, the Western Highlands that WHW runs through. So, one has to pack accordingly, even in the summertime. Also, you'll encounter midges - bloodsucking little devils - so remember to bring bug net and long sleeves / pants.

The base weight of the gear included in this list (not including the clothing to be worn or trekking poles or iPhone) is 7,337 kg. (16.1 lb).

Here's my West Highland Way packing list.
